About Harrah's Hotel and Casino

In 1998, Harrah's purchased Showboat, Inc. and renamed the property in East Chicago, Indiana Harrah's East Chicago. Harrah's East Chicago Hotel and Riverboat Casino features 53,000 square feet of comfortable gaming space including 1,900 slot machines and 16 live poker tables. Superior customer service is offered from its staff of 1,900 employees.Harrah's East Chicago is a 15 floor hotel with 294 guest rooms with seven suites on the top floor. Seven restaurants provide quality dining and entertainment for the hotel guests.

Harrah's Hotel and Casino wanted to upgrade their hotel facilities in East Chicago to provide a better comfort to their guest as well as improving the energy efficiency.

II. SOLUTION IMPLEMENTATION

Implementation methodology (main phases):

Harrah's facility engineers, consulting engineers and mechanical contractor chose Square D®enclosed drives to provide ventilation and comfort for the hotel guests.

Solution Harrah's Hotel and Casino uses Square D®brand S-FlexTMenclosed variable speed drives for pump and fan applications used in heating, ventilation and air conditioning.Variable speed drive applications include:•Control of 2 horsepower water pumps circulating hot water from the boilers to the air handling units for heating and for hot water booster pumps to guest rooms for hot showers•Control of 40 horsepower exhaust fans on each of the 14 guest room floors. Exhaust fans located on each floor will provide smoke evacuation for life safety protection.

How did we estimate the energy savings (methodology, tools, ...)

Harrah's Hotel and Casino is able to save on energy costs by using variable speed drives to reduce fan speed and water pump speed. A 10% reduction in motor speed for centrifugal fan and pumps yields a 27% savings in electricity.
